Department of Defense Honors Comm-Works Supervisor for Patriotic Support

Plymouth, MN – Minnesota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, announced Jacob Pomplun of Comm-Works was honored recently with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of his employee serving in the Guard and Reserve.

Pomplun was nominated for being highly supportive of his U.S. Navy Reserve Component employee, Petty Officer 1st Class Heath Blobaum.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Nick Ostapenko, Minnesota ESGR state chair. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Blobaum spoke about some of the supportive things Jacob Pomplun has done for him.

“As an employee at Comm-Works working for the vice president of marketing, Jacob Pomplun, I have been provided the flexibility and support to participate in operations with my unit for extended periods as required, and often times on short notice. Not only has Jacob provided support when interfacing with company leadership, he has provided encouragement and expressed understanding and appreciation.”

Blobaum went on to say, “Jacob recently worked with our company leadership to ensure that a reduced amount of paid time off was used by me, instead of the fully chargeable amount while I was away on battalion operations. Not only does Jacob work to maximize my participation with my unit, he also works to minimize the amount of interaction required by me with the company when in an active status on battalion operations. He shoulders a large amount of the workload that would normally fall on my shoulders, allowing me to fully focus on the tasks required by my battalion.”

ESGR, a DoD office, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR’s mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
